Coach Al “Hoach” Imbimbio told Daily Voice this week that the indoor practice is designed to acclimate 13-year olds to playing on a field with larger distances than they were accustomed to in Little League.

“It’s quite a bit different playing field, and a big adjustment,” Imbimbio said. “We’ll have Saturday practices in the gym until the weather breaks and we can get outdoors.”

There will be between four and five teams of 13 year-olds, depending on how many teens sign up, but they will also all be on teams with 14 and 15 year-olds, the coach said.

Practice starts Saturday at 9 a.m., and a parent has to come in to sign their child up and give written permission.

They can also come Tuesday night from 6 - 8:30 p.m., and Friday to Memorial School in South Hackensack, again from 6 - 8:30 p.m.

The season will start at the end of March, beginning of April, depending on weather, and continues until the beginning of July. Through the summer, players have the opportunity to compete with other towns in All-Star.

Little Ferry also has a Mickey Mantle team for 15 and 16 year-olds, a senior Babe Ruth League for 16, 17 and 18-year olds, and a Stan Musial league for 18 and older.
